Rodent programs, pet-safe baiting and what happens afterwards

Rodent Control — service brochure cover

About this service

Rodent control eliminates rats and mice from your home and prevents re-entry. Roof rats and house mice are the most common species in Newcastle, entering through gaps in roofs, walls and subfloors. Our treatment combines baiting, trapping and exclusion to eliminate the current population and prevent future infestations.

Pricing

Rodent Treatment is $195 to $350 depending on dwelling type, confirmed in your free written quote. Follow-up re-attendance visits, if required, are $165. Bundled with a general pest treatment, this service is a $110 add-on.

Depending on your location, a travel surcharge may apply, and depending on the extent of the infestation, an infestation surcharge may apply. Any applicable surcharge is always confirmed in your written quote before work proceeds. Full conditions are on our pricing and warranty page.

Before your treatment

Follow these preparation steps so the treatment works as designed.

  • Tell us about pets, children or non-target wildlife on the property before we place any baits
  • Secure pet food, bird seed and chook feed in sealed containers
  • Clear clutter from the roof void, garage, under-sink areas and along wall lines so stations can be placed effectively
  • Ensure access to the roof void and subfloor
  • Note where you've seen or heard rodents — scratching in the roof at night tells us where to concentrate

Our treatment process

01

Inspect & Identify

We inspect roof voids, subfloors and external areas for nests, droppings, runways and entry points. We identify whether rats or mice are the primary species.

02

Install Bait & Traps

We place tamper-resistant bait stations and snap traps in active runways and secure locations, away from children and pets.

03

Eliminate

Bait is consumed over 7–14 days, eliminating the population. We monitor bait take and adjust placement as needed.

04

Exclude & Prevent

We identify and advise on sealing entry points to prevent re-entry. A follow-up confirms elimination and removes accessible carcasses.

What's included

  • Roof void inspection for nests and droppings
  • Tamper-resistant bait stations in secure locations
  • Snap traps in active runways
  • Subfloor and garage treatment
  • External perimeter bait stations
  • Entry point identification and exclusion advice
  • Follow-up visit to confirm elimination

Not included (quoted separately)

  • Physical entry point sealing (quoted separately or as an add-on)
  • Carcass removal from inaccessible wall cavities
  • Ongoing monitoring programs (available as a separate service)
  • Commercial rodent management programs

After your treatment

What to do, and what to expect, once we've finished.

  • Leave bait stations exactly where placed — moving them reduces effectiveness
  • Expect activity to stop within 1–2 weeks as baits take effect
  • Check stations visually between visits but never open them
  • After the program, ask us about proofing (mesh, door seals, gap closing) to stop re-entry
  • Remove accessible food sources — the treatment works best when sanitation follows it

Children, pets & safety

Rodent baiting is planned around children, dogs, cats and non-target wildlife. All baits are secured in locked, tamper-resistant stations or placed in areas pets and children cannot reach — loose bait is never used.

  • Baits sit inside locked, tamper-resistant stations — never opened, moved or handled by anyone but our technicians
  • Tell us about dogs before treatment: stations are only placed where dogs cannot reach or interfere with them
  • Keep children away from stations; if a station is tampered with, call us immediately
  • Secure all pet food, bird seed and chook feed — competing food sources make baits less effective
  • Wear gloves to dispose of any rodent found after treatment; never handle rodents bare-handed
  • If you suspect a pet has eaten bait, call us or your vet immediately — the active ingredient and quantity are printed on your service record
