Signs You Have Wasps

  • Wasps flying in and out of a single point — a wall cavity, roof eave, tree or ground hole
  • Visible paper or grey mud nest in eaves, shrubs or under rooflines
  • Increased wasp activity around outdoor eating areas, bins and drinks
  • Buzzing sound from within wall cavities or roof voids
  • Underground nests with wasps entering holes in lawns or garden beds

Why Wasps Become a Problem

European wasps are aggressive, can sting multiple times, and swarm when disturbed. Stings are painful and can trigger life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Nests in wall cavities can grow to contain thousands of wasps and may chew through plasterboard into living areas.

Where We Commonly Find Them

  • Wall cavities and roof voids
  • Under eaves and rooflines
  • In trees, shrubs and hedges
  • Underground in lawns and garden beds
  • Sheds, garages and outdoor structures

How We Inspect for Wasps

We locate the nest entrance by observing wasp flight paths, assess whether the nest is accessible for direct treatment or concealed in a wall cavity, and determine the species — European wasps require a different approach to paper wasps.

How Wasps Treatment Works

Treatment applies insecticidal dust or spray directly into the nest entrance, which is carried into the nest by returning wasps to eliminate the colony. Concealed nests in wall cavities are treated via entry points. We treat at dusk or dawn when wasps are less active.

Areas We Treat

  • Nest entrance and surrounding area
  • Wall cavity entry points
  • Roof void
  • Eaves and external nest sites
  • Underground nest sites

How Long Treatment Takes

A wasp treatment takes 20–45 minutes. The colony is typically eliminated within 24–48 hours as the insecticide works through the nest. Old nests are not re-colonised but we can remove accessible ones.

What to Do Before Treatment

Keep all family members and pets indoors, close windows and doors near the nest, do not disturb the nest or block the entrance, and avoid outdoor eating near the nest.

What to Do After Treatment

Stay away from the nest area for at least 24 hours, do not block the entrance (wasps need to carry insecticide in), and contact us if wasp activity continues after 48 hours.

When Follow-Up Treatment May Be Required

A follow-up visit is only required if wasp activity persists after 48 hours, which can indicate a secondary entrance or a larger concealed nest requiring additional treatment.

Wasps Treatment Cost

Wasp treatment cost depends on nest location and accessibility. Ground and eave nests are typically straightforward; wall cavity and roof void nests may require additional access.

Prevention Advice

  • Seal gaps around roof eaves, wall vents and pipe entries in spring
  • Keep rubbish bins closed and clean up food and drinks outdoors
  • Inspect eaves, sheds and garden areas for early nest construction in spring
  • Trim branches touching the house that provide wasp access
  • Avoid leaving pet food outdoors
