Signs You Have Cockroaches
- Live cockroaches in kitchens, behind appliances or inside cupboards at night
- Droppings resembling black pepper or coffee grounds in hinges and corners
- Musty odour in heavily infested areas
- Egg cases (oothecae) glued to corners of cupboards and behind fridges
- Cast skins from moulting nymphs
Why Cockroaches Become a Problem
Cockroaches contaminate food and surfaces with bacteria including Salmonella and E. coli, trigger asthma and allergies, and German cockroaches can multiply into thousands within months from a single egg case. They hide in appliances, electronics and wall voids, making surface spraying ineffective.
Where We Commonly Find Them
- Behind and under refrigerators and stoves
- Inside dishwashers and microwaves
- Kitchen and bathroom cupboards
- Electrical appliances and power points
- Drains and pipe entries
How We Inspect for Cockroaches
We inspect behind appliances, inside cupboard hinges, around hot water systems and in electrical fittings using flush-out techniques to confirm species and gauge population density. German cockroaches require a different approach to larger outdoor species.
How Cockroaches Treatment Works
German cockroaches are treated with professional gel bait applied to cracks, hinges and harbourages, plus a non-repellent residual to crevices. Larger species are treated with perimeter and drain applications. We do not rely on repellent sprays that drive cockroaches deeper into wall voids.
Areas We Treat
- Kitchen and bathroom cupboards
- Behind appliances
- Skirting and architraves
- Roof void
- Subfloor
- Drains and pipe entries
How Long Treatment Takes
A standard cockroach treatment takes 60–90 minutes. German cockroach infestations typically require a follow-up visit at 2–4 weeks to address newly hatched nymphs.
What to Do Before Treatment
Empty kitchen and bathroom cupboards where possible, pull appliances away from walls for access, clean away competing food sources, and secure pets.
What to Do After Treatment
Do not clean gel bait placements for at least two weeks, avoid spraying other products that may contaminate the bait, and leave dead cockroaches in place briefly as cannibalising cockroaches consume the bait second-hand.
When Follow-Up Treatment May Be Required
German cockroach treatments include a follow-up at 2–4 weeks because egg cases hatch after the initial visit. Heavy infestations may require a third visit to confirm elimination.
Cockroaches Treatment Cost
Cockroach treatment cost depends on the species, infestation severity and number of follow-up visits required. German cockroach treatments are more involved than one-off larger species treatments.
Prevention Advice
- Fix leaking taps and reduce moisture in kitchens and bathrooms
- Keep food in sealed containers and clean crumbs nightly
- Empty rubbish bins regularly and keep lids closed
