Chemical Soil Barriers
A chemical soil barrier is created by treating the soil under and around the building with a non-repellent termiticide. Termites passing through the treated zone pick up the active ingredient and die, protecting the structure. Chemical barriers can be installed in existing homes by trenching, rodding and drilling through concrete.
Physical Barriers
Physical barriers are built into the structure during construction — for example, termite shielding, stainless steel mesh, or graded stone. They force termites to build visible mud tubes to bypass them, making detection easier. Physical barriers are primarily for new builds and extensions.
Which Barrier Is Right for You
Existing homes generally use chemical soil barriers because they can be retrofitted. New builds and major renovations can incorporate physical barriers. We assess your construction type, access and risk to recommend the most suitable option.
